How to keep your Vagina happy.
All women should be concerned about their vaginal health. Hygiene is an essential part of the life and good health of every individual. Hygiene helps with the maintenance of health. It is basically a set of practices or conditions necessary for good health. A lot has been said and heard about the essence of good hygiene practices. It is important that we keep our bodies in such a way that it becomes inconvenient for pathogens to stay. The issue of body hygiene is of much importance and needs to be talked about till everyone gets it. For us women, vaginal hygiene is of great importance. Below are a few tips on how to maintain vaginal hygiene in a safe way
1 Protect vaginal PH balance without douching. Douching is basically washing out the vagina usually with a mixture of water and vinegar , a douching product or anything apart from water. This is to be avoided as the vagina cleans itself and any attempt to clean it with other products causes more harm than good . You end up distorting the balance of PH and killing some good bacteria in the vagina. Washing with soap and scented products is also to be avoided. Washing with just water is best .
2 Maintain a healthy diet for vaginal health. The food we eat has an overall impact on our health. However, the nutrients and compositions of some foods make them more appropriate for specific things. There are a few things about our diet that we can improve to keep our vagina happy. Drinking a lot of water will help your vaginal mucus membrane to function probably and ensure your vagina stays lubricated. It also helps in diminishing foul smell. Garlic has antimicrobial properties which helps to reduce the incidence of yeast infection therefore it wouldn't hurt to include garlic in your diet. Fresh fruits and vegetables are also loaded with lots of vitamins that are good for vaginal health. Yogurt has a lot of good bacteria " pro biotic " needed for a healthy PH level. A general good diet would in tern be good for vaginal health
3 Practice safe sex to keep harmful germs away and treat infections when they arise. HPV which stands for human papillomavirus causes genital warts and also known to cause cancer. The HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection and unsafe sex will one way or the other give a lot of trouble to your vagina and your health in general. Reporting issues concerning the vagina can be uncomfortable because of shyness among other things but early detection is very important as it helps save the situation before it gets to a critical stage.
4 Choose clothing carefully to stay dry and change sanitary pads regularly during the day . Yeasts thrive in moist conditions and some fabrics promote warm and moist condition, therefore it is advisable you wear cotton underwear and ensure they are not very tight. It's best to also change quickly after a workout or a swim in other not to keep the place wet for long. Sanitary pads should be changed ideally every six hours but it's not general as changing of pads depends on the quality of the pad you're using and how heavily you're bleeding. The point however is to keep as dry and clean as possible during your menstrual period.
Finally, weather you are wiping, cleaning or washing your vagina, it should always be done from the front to the back and never from the back to the front to avoid the spread of bacteria from the anus to the vagina as the vaginal area is sensitive. Cervical screening for all women especially those aged 25 - 64 is important for early detection of any abnormal changes in the cervix and if necessary, treated to stop cancer. These few tips can go a long way to keep the vagina happy always.
