Breast Cancer

B reast cancer is a major public health problem and the most common type of cancer among women in terms of mortality and incidence (Gartey et al,2016). A 10-year review   on Cancer mortality patterns in Ghana, conducted by Wiredu K.E. and Amah B.H., revealed that Breast cancer represented 17.24% of all cancer mortality cases (2006). Gartey et al, (2016) discovered that Volta Region has the highest burden of breast cancer out of five regions (Greater Accra Region, Brong Ahafo Region, Western Region, Ashanti region and Volta region) with 0.43% of breast cancer cases out of 0.76% breast cancer cases in all. With regards to the change in lifestyle in this 21 century in terms of eating habits and daily activities, it can be predicted that the incidence in Breast cancer mortality and morbidity is bound to increase in years to come. Cervical Cancer

Cervical Cancer is the leading cause of cancer related morbidity and mortality among females in Ghana and in other developing countries. Ghana has an estimated population of 6.57 million women aged 15 years and older as at 2009, who are at risk of developing cervical cancer. Current estimates indicate that every year 3,038 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer and 2,006 die from the disease. Cervical cancer is the most frequent among women aged 15 to 44 years in Ghana (Cancer Plan Ghana,2016). Cervical cancer is the second most common type of cancer among women worldwide and the most preventable type of cancer. Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that develops in a woman's cervix (the entrance to the womb from the vagina). Cancer of the cervix often has no symptoms in its early stages until it reaches an advanced stage.
